The Age of Plastic is the debut album by the English new wave duo the Buggles, released on 10 January 1980 in Australia and 4 February in the United Kingdom. It is a concept album about the possible effects of modern technology. The title was conceived from the group's intention of being a "plastic group" and the album was produced in the wake of the success of their debut record, "Video Killed the Radio Star" (1979), which topped the UK Singles Chart.

The Age of Plastic is the debut studio album of synthpop/New Wave group The Buggles. It is a concept album having themes of intense nostalgia and anxiety about the possible effects of modern technology. With the album recorded and mixed at Virgin's Town House and Sarm East Studios, it was released by Island Records in 1980.

The Buggles were Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes, two legendary studio noodlers and video pioneers of the '70s and '80s, who went on to join Yes for one album and later form Asia. But "Video" is just the beginning when it comes to the marvels of The Age of Plastic. The memorable "I Love You (Miss Robot)" plays like Kratfwerk drowning in a vat of flour, a computerized cry from the soul. The raucous "Kid Dynamo" foreshadows many an early '80s synth rock hit. "Clean Clean" brings a bit of a punk rock element into the mix.

I still lived in Belgium when the Buggles hit big with the "Video Killed the Radio Star" in late 1979, and couldn't wait to snap up their debut album, back in the vinyl days. Now, 30 years later, I bought this reissue. The Age of Plastic" (11 tracks, includind 3 bonus tracks; 48 mi. plays like a trip back in time, and plays surprisingly well, frankly. The album starts off with "The Plastic Age", an epic 5 min. track that expands on the sound of the "Video" tune. The original album only had 8 tracks, 4 on each side, and was a quick listen
