Space Is the Place is a jazz album by Sun Ra. It was released in 1973. This album was originally issued in LP format on the ABC Records label, Blue Thumb Records; in the CD era it was issued with the Impulse! label. all written and arranged by Sun Ra). Note: Space Is The Place was originally released on Blue Thumb Records in 1973 as BTS-41. Impulse producer Ed Michel supervised the recording session. Impulse, then owned by ABC, was releasing many of Sun Ra's albums under a distribution agreement with Saturn Records during the same time. For these reasons Space In The Place has been returned to its rightful place on Impulse.

Like many of his recordings he employs an all-star cast of supporting musicians. Guests on the album include John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, and June Tyson. The album was also adapted for the screen, written by Ra and directed by John Cooney in 1974

Genre: Avant-Garde Jazz. Weird and intense experience filled with a cacophony of voices, sounds and instrumentation with spiritual guidance by Sun Ra himself. This ambition and "disrespect" for the rules of formal jazz are seen on monster suite Space is The Place and Sea of Sounds. Not that the other tracks are any less interesting.

One of his greatest works is a collaboration with Dan the Automator called Deltron 3030. With the self-titled album, Del brought a wonderful mix of science fiction genres, involving anime mechs, intergalactic space travel, evil warlord governments, and cyberpunk culture into one of the most original works of science fiction last decade, musical or otherwise.
