Jan Jelinek ‎– Zwischen. Label: Faitiche ‎– faitiche 17. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album. A very unique approach to this concept album. I was hesitant at first but it retains an excellent mood and is laden with Jelineks modern glitch soup. A far better approach than Alva Noto’s vocal deconstructs in my opinion but similar.

Jan Jelinek has a new LP on the way. Zwischen-German for "between"-is an album-length adaptation of a radio play that Jelinek wrote for German broadcaster SWR2. Each track is a collage based on an excerpt of an interview with a public figure, isolating the spaces between words as well as the non-verbal noises the speakers make. Following the reissue of his timeless Loop Finding Jazz Records last year, Jan Jelinek returns with a transitional new album ‘Zwischen’, which is made up of versions of pieces recorded for German public broadcaster SWR2. It includes twelve sound collages which make use of fragmented interviews provided by public figures including John Cage, Lady Gaga, Stockhausen, Yoko Ono, Joseph Beuys, Marcel Duchamp and others.

Like others of his breed, Jelinek’s more recent output has moved toward a logic of abstract composition, away from the glitchy amoebic dance music that defined key records s. To take a look at the German electronic landscape is to take a look at Jan Jelinek. The producer - responsible for some of the most notable and brilliant albums of German house, techno, and experimental music - has sketched the outlines of his country’s scene across various decades and noms de plume. Like others of his breed, Jelinek’s more recent output has moved toward a logic of abstract composition, away from the glitchy amoebic dance music that defined key records such as 2001’s cords and 2002’s Textstar.
