Herman Brood (born Zwolle, The Netherlands, 05 November 1946; died Amsterdam, 11 July 2001) was a Dutch rock and roll musician, painter and media personality. Brood was the Dutch personification of "sex, drugs and rock 'n roll". After playing piano in Cuby + Blizzards and several other bands since 1964, Brood started his own group, Herman Brood & His Wild Romance, in 1977.

Street is the first studio album by Dutch rock and roll and blues group Herman Brood & His Wild Romance, and the start of a solo career for Herman Brood, who had earlier toured and recorded with Cuby and the Blizzards and made one record with the short-lived band Stud. Commercially, it was not very successful: on the Dutch album chart, it reached on 28 May 1977 and stayed on the chart for 7 weeks. The record was re-released on CD in 1995 by Sony BMG/Ariola.

Herman Brood may be the only real Dutch equivalent of the Sex, Drugs en Rock & Roll lifestyle. As a young Herman he played with Dutch Blues-masters Cuby & The Blizzards (late 60's), the bands Stud, Flash & Dance Band (with Jan Akkerman) and Vitesse. After a short reunion of Cuby & The Blizzards (mid 70's) he started his own band "Herman Brood & His Wild Romance"

Talk about Herman Brood & His Wild Romance - Street

Goll
Herman Brood, devil spawn of Dr. John and Johnny Thunders, just the best, rest in peace. STREET was the first solo outing and in some ways the best. It's a guitar flange festival, nobody in Holland had Danny Ladermacher's chops when he was straight. It's kind of a celebration of heroin (two words you don't often hear in the same sentence) but hey, Herman walked the walk. He never broke out in the English speaking circles because his accent was so strong. His lyrical content, vocals and piano playing are just awesome. After STREET he was always uneven in the studio, but he did put out several great live albums, Spritz, Wild Romance, Cha-Cha, and Cha Cha (The Soundtrack). His back-up singers by then were his current wife Nina Hagen and her best friend Lena Lovich. We are very fortunate that the group made a movie called Cha Cha that you can find on DVD. At the end of the movie he jumps off the roof of the Hilton in Amsterdam, but he wouldn't really jump off that roof until 20 years later. By then he had established himself as a great painter sold in galleries from Soho to Rome while still performing live from time to time. A terrible loss, a missing part of the punk/blues puzzle. The Dutch appreciate him much more now then ever. Herman would sometimes play concerts naked - it just doesn't get more real than that. Street is essential.
