Liberate seems to fill in a lot of the check boxes for what one could pass off as typical weak, generic uplifting trance circa 2008: a very minimal presentation of percussion instruments (seriously reduced to just a kick drum, hi-hats, and white noise for a "clap"), drum rolls at almost every break, and a superfluous display of rolling basslines like nobody's business.The production quality is not too good, which may be more fatal than the stereotypes. Starting with what is most obvious, the kick drum's volume is set too high, drowning out much of the other elements. The amount of clipping is just appalling and it requires that you set the volume very low not to get hearing fatigue. This has become a very problematic trend of ASOT releases in general in the past couple of years. Although fans point to the melody in the breakdown, there is nothing particularly melodically interesting as a whole about this track. It sounds fluffy, forced, and basic, without much emotional/musical depth, much less production depth. Liberate is certainly not the worst I've heard and I'm probably coming off too harsh, but I'd only recommend it for people who have some urge to collect as many trance releases as possible.
