The Missing Years is the 10th studio album by American folk musician John Prine, released in 1991 on Oh Boy Records. It won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. The Missing Years was Prine's first studio release since his 1986 album German Afternoons and is regarded as his comeback album

Say the words "love song" to anyone, and it immediately brings to mind slushy romantic ballads as popularised by Celine Dion. The New Love Album, may well claim to be something different, but the evidence is there for all to see-"Against All Odds" from Phil Collins, "True" by Spandau Ballet and "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin-all great tracks, but great slushy romantic tracks. There are some more upbeat tracks included under the "Love" umbrella-Ronan Keating's "Life Is A Rollercoaster", The Rembrandts "I'll Be There.

The album itself is an excellent blend of easy listening love songs without being slushy, mostly taken from the first half of the 1990's but going back to the 1960's; 70's and 80's for a few very well known tracks. The music is not the obscure songs that these albums usually contain that no one has ever heard of. Tracks that a lot of people know and can sing along to, original artists and very good quality recording. Not 'tinny' like some compilations
