Spike is the 12th studio album by the British rock singer and songwriter Elvis Costello, released on compact disc as Warner Brothers 25848. It was his first album for the label. It peaked at No. 5 on the UK album chart. It also reached No. 32 on the Billboard 200 thanks to the single and his most notable American hit, "Veronica," which reached No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and N. on the US Modern Rock chart.

It Takes Two (Deeper Love). Wake Up. Sweet Emotions. When the Light. o in Luv. Treat Me Right. Someone Like You. Good, Good Love. 32 on the Billboard 200 thanks to the single and his most notable American hit, Veronica, which reached No. In 1987, Costello began writing with Paul McCartney for the latter’s Flowers in the Dirt album

Redirected from Spike (album)). Cleat (shoe), protrusions on the sole of a shoe. Nail (fastener), especially one over ten inches (25 cm) long. Rail spike, or screw spike, used to construct railroad tracks. Spindle (stationery), an upright spike used to hold papers. Spike (nickname), a list of people. Spike (surname), a list of people. Spikes (surname), a list of people.

spike - sports equipment consisting of a sharp point on the sole of a shoe worn by athletes; "spikes provide greater traction". climbing iron, crampon, crampoon, climber - an iron spike attached to the shoe to prevent slipping on ice when walking or climbing. spike - each of the sharp points on the soles of athletic shoes to prevent slipping (or the shoes themselves); "the second baseman sharpened his spikes before every game"; "golfers' spikes damage the putting greens". gaff - a sharp metal spike or spur that is fastened to the leg of a gamecock. point - sharp end; "he stuck the point of the knife into a tree"; "he broke the point of his pencil". 8. spike - a sharp-pointed projection along the top of a fence or wall (or a dinosaur). projection - any structure that branches out from a central support

Mockingly billing himself as "the Beloved Entertainer" on the album's front cover, there's nevertheless a real sense of showbiz pizzazz here, as he tries on a little bit of everything. You like Costello the soul singer? Try "Deep Dark Truthful Mirror," recorded with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Costello the pop sophisticate? How about the torch song "Baby Plays Around" or "God's Comic," a tune that mocks Andrew Lloyd Webber, while aching to eclipse him. The angry young man? There's "Tramp the Dirt Down," perhaps the nastiest.
