Gore Vidal - An Evening With Richard M. Nixon flac album

Gore Vidal began to drift towards the political left after he received his first paycheck, and realised how much money the government took in tax. He reasoned that if the government was taking so much money, then it should at least provide first-rate healthcare and education. In 1960, Vidal was the Democratic candidate for Congress for the 29th Congressional District of New York, a usually Republican district on the Hudson River but . .An Evening with Richard Nixon (1970). On the March to the Sea (2005).

This is not Gore Vidal at his best, but I enjoyed reading it nevertheless. I know little about Nixon, so I learned on that score and, as usual when reading history, it's amusing to see that nothing really changes. Lots of echoes of current politicians (esp US republicans, of course) in the words of Nixon. A play using actual words of Nixon, Kennedy, LBJ and others who came in contact with Tricky Dick. Kind of an indictment of Nixon's career, but it was written in 1972 before the real fun began. Funny at times, but not Vidal's best.

The play is a wry examination of the career and Presidency (up to that pre-Watergate point) of Richard M. Nixon (Irving). As it starts, two pundits, a William F. Buckley-like Pro (Rupert) and a Gore Vidal-like Con (Estredo) are debating the worthiness of Nixon.

On May 1st, the nominees for the 2012 Tony Awards were announced. Among the plays nominated for Best Revival is Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, written by the urnalist (ahead of the 21st century multi-hyphenate trend) in 1960. as a television serial and another network has come up with An Evening with Richard Nixon. I may just have to get justice for that one. The play was ahead of its time.

VIDAL: (yawning, stretching) I did, in An Evening with Richard Nixon, in which appeared in 1972 an actress called Susan Sarandon, which is why I'm here now. KLOMAN: You live mostly, where, in Italy?
