Baldur is the début full-length album by the Icelandic Viking, folk metal band Skálmöld. It was first released in Iceland and the Faeroe Islands on December 15, 2010 through Tutl and re-released by Napalm Records worldwide in July – August 2011. While Skálmöld was initially formed with intention to be just a hobby, the band members soon decided to record an album. In January 2010, the band recorded its first demo, consisting of two song, "Árás" and "Kvaðning", but it was never released.

Gildran was an Icelandic trio that first formed in 1985, playing rock at a time when the nation was more interested in pop and other stuff. After initially performing their songs in English, the band switched to their native Icelandic in time for their debut album, 1987s Huldumenn. The fact that they went on to record at least five more albums and have done some reunion shows in recent years speaks to the band’s continued popularity in their homeland.
