The Dragon is a studio album by the Greek electronic composer Vangelis, unofficially released in 1978. After the break-up of Aphrodite's Child, Vangelis wanted to relocate to London. Producer Giorgio Gomelsky introduced him to some other musicians and put together a collaborative project which was funded by French free jazz record label BYG records with the intention of releasing an album. Two albums' worth of material had resulted from these sessions, but were unfinished and never intended for release.

The Dragon: Apart from Vangelis, the line-up consisted of long-term musical collaborator Arghiris (guitar), and session musicians Michel Ripoche (violin), Brian Odgers (bass), Micky Waller (drums). The sessions were recorded in London's Marquee Studios by Giorgio Gomelsky. Hypothesis: is a 1978 album by the Greek artist Vangelis. In May 1971 Vangelis had played several sessions in London's Marquee Studios, joined for some of them by violinist Michel Ripoche, bass guitarist Brian Odgers (called Odger on the sleeve) and drummer Tony Oxley, the rhythm section of the famous Extrapolation recording released by John McLaughlin.

Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (born 29 March 1943), known professionally as Vangelis (/væŋˈɡɛlɪs/; Greek: Βαγγέλης ), is a Greek musician and composer of electronic, progressive, ambient, jazz, and orchestral music.

Still in 1971, Vangelis played several sessions in the London Marquee Studios, some of them together with violinist Michel Ripoche, bass guitarist Brian Odger and drummer Tony Oxley. For some reason the recordings were never released at the time, and lay shelved until 1978, when Charly Records suddenly released the music under the name 'Hypothesis'. 1979 Charly/Bellaphon CR 3053 "Portrait" (2LP) The Dragon and Hypothesis. The LP of Hypothesis is a bit rare, but still possible to find (in Europe at least) in record stores and at record fairs. Recording Studio The music for this album was recorded at Marquee Studios, London (May 1971).
