The Boy Is Mine is the second studio album by American R&B recording artist Monica. It was released by Arista Records on July 14, 1998, in the United States. The album deviated from the formula of her debut Miss Thang (1995) as she had more creative control over the material she recorded; a step that she considered a "natural progression".

Talk about Hardrock Soul Movement - The Beat Is Mine

The Beat Is Mine... Hard. tough as nails electro rap from Hardrock Soul Movement ! Probably the toughest sounding HipHop record from 1986 and it's from the U.K.!And if you listen to the opening of this record I pretty sure I can hear the same synth sound that Joey Beltram used for his classic track Mentasm... Have a listen!

Correctamondo! I've always wondered this. Thought I was imagining things that weren't there. Glad someone else has noticed it too and that I can now confirm that I'm only half crazy! Obviously Joey Beltram and the rest of the mentasm crew mangled the sound up much further :)I've always preferred the original of 'Double Def Fresh/Def Hypnosis' but this is a real tough serious groove. While in 1986 US hip hop was increasingly becoming more commercial and somewhat cheesy at times. Going in a different direction. This stayed underground and tough and to its roots, dirty bassline, utilising the 808 to great effect. With a nice cutting up of beats to boot.Actually, it was a massive coincidence as the thread below brought me here for the ID at the bottom. Never expected to read a review mentioning the sound on here lol!https://www.discogs.com/group/thread/736801?page=1#7339850
