Tarney/Spencer Band were a rock band formed in London in 1975 with Trevor Spencer on drums and Alan Tarney on lead guitar, bass guitar and lead vocals. Both had been in Australian bands, including James Taylor Move, prior to relocating to the United Kingdom, where they formed the duo. The group issued three albums, Tarney and Spencer (1976), Three's a Crowd (1978) and Run for Your Life (1979).

In 1974 he formed John Spencer’s Louts with t Johnny G (b. John Gotting), Dave Thorne and Chas Ambler. Spencer himself played lead guitar. Recording contracts were signed and broken by three labels before Beggars Banquet Records issued the band’s only album. Spencer formed Spencer’s Alternative with ex-Gryphon members Graeme Taylor (guitar) and Malcolm Bennett (bass), and Michael Gregory (drums). This outfit released ‘Mumbo Jumbo’ (1980) but was not heard to full effect on record until Dutch label Any Time issued Out With A Bang. With Taylor the only survivor from the original line-up of his band, Spencer recorded the tougher-sounding Break And Entry which was issued by Irish-based Round Tower Records.

John B Spencer was a London-born maverick writer and musician, working between the 1960's and the 1990's. He recorded many albums, and wrote many novels in the pulp-fiction crime genre. Described as having a voice "in need of a good shave", John's work encompassed folk, blues, reggae, and good old rock'n'roll, but beyond that his style is unclassifiable.
