Defending the Throne of Evil is the fourth studio album by the Norwegian black metal band Carpathian Forest. It was released on September 23, 2003 by Season of Mist. A remastered, deluxe double LP version with a bonus track was also released in 2007.

Carpathian Forest is most well known for being one of the most satanic bands in the black metal scene. They are also known for their morbid lyrical content which doesn't always deal with satanism alone. Other lyrical themes include morbid things such as death, sodomy, and suicide just to name a few. Throughout their career, Carpathian Forest has always played traditional black metal. The keyboards are a huge factor on this album because they help make Defending the Throne of Evil so much better than all their other albums and their best album to date. Like I said before, the keyboards play a huge factor in making this album great. The symphonic arrangements start off right at the beginning of the album on It's Darker Than You Think. It starts off with a creepy symphonic piece, the bass comes in, and then you're surprised with a very loud "AHH" from Nattefrost.

The guitar work is the main turn on of this album for me, it's fast with a variety of techniques merged in including the odd bit of tremeto picking and some of everyone's favourite pinched harmonics aswell as some nice fluent chord constructions, the drums are nothing special a by modern standards and tchjord dosn't let the band down with. I think the first track "It's Darker Than You Think" realy somes up the album in it's title, I read the lyrics before reading the song and yes, it was darker than I anticipated. this is no Cradle Of Filth, cradle use poetry to tone down their dank dingy themes down a little, where as Carpathian Forest are strait up in.
