Arthur Lyman (February 2, 1932 – February 24, 2002) was an American jazz vibraphone and marimba player. His group popularized a style of faux-Polynesian music during the 1950s and 1960s which later became known as exotica. Lyman was known as "the King of Lounge music.

Lyman's debut album, recorded shortly after he left Martin Denny's group, was almost as popular as the concurrent releases by his former mentor, reaching the Top Ten. Purists may hang me for this, but I honestly don't detect much difference between Lyman's late '50s releases and Denny's. Meaning, if you like one, you'll most likely want the other, and if you're not all that excited about exotica to begin with, one Denny compilation should be all you need. Taboo: The Greatest Hits of Arthur Lyman. At his peak Lyman was recording four albums a year, leaving the compilers a wealth of material to choose for this set. The title cut was Lyman's springboard to cocktail fame, his biggest hit and still standing out as his strongest outing, but the man was so consistent that it's hard to fault any tune that he laid his vibe mallets to, no matter how hoary
