Mendocino is the second album by country rock group The Sir Douglas Quintet, released in April 1969 on Smash Records. The album peaked at No. 81 on the Billboard 200 charts. Neon Records re-released the album in 2001 and 2008. Doug Sahm – Vocals, guitar, pedal steel guitar, fiddle. Frank Morin – Vocals, horns.

This and "Mendocino" are only two of the many nearly perfect tracks on this record, some of which give off the illusion (perhaps an accurate one) that they were simply tossed off without a whole lot of preperation. Texas Me" is genius on triple levels: there is the poetry of the lyrics, the soulful delivery from the singer, and finally the haunting recording fat with echoey, multitracked vocal and fiddle.

Album: Mendocino (1968). The Sir Douglas Quintet came on the scene in 1965 with their first single, "She's About A Mover. They were from Texas, but tried to pass off as Brits to tie in with the British Invasion bands that were huge at the time (thus the band name). That ruse didn't last long, but in 1968 they became a California hippie band, albeit with a Tex-Mex sound. Mendocino" introduced this new look and got them back on the chart. It was their last substantial hit, but the group proved very prolific, with a string of recordings typically in the roots music genre.
