Punk rock started in 1976 on New York’s Bowery, when four cretins from Queens came up with a mutant strain of blitzkrieg bubblegum. The revolution they inspired split the history of rock & roll in half. But even if punk rock began as a kind of negation - a call to stark, brutal simplicity - its musical variety and transforming emotional power was immediate and remains staggering. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Ramones’ toweringly influential self-titled debut, we’ve compiled a list of the 40 Greatest Punk Albums of All Time.

Streets is a compilation album of early British and French punk rock bands from a variety of independent record labels. It was an attempt at an end of year ‘round up’ and, significantly, was the first album released on Beggars Banquet Records (catalogue number BEGA1)

Phillip Jack Brooks (born October 26, 1978), better known by the ring name CM Punk, is an American mixed martial artist, comic book writer and retired professional wrestler. He is perhaps best known for his time in WWE, where he is recognized as the sixth longest reigning WWE Champion of all-time.

Listen to Mental Case from The Pricks's Don't Want to Be Used for free, and see the artwork, lyrics and similar artists. 1. The Pricks play Punk Rock from Scandinavia with the superior feeling of the good old American west coast punk/hc from the 70’s and the 80’s. The sound is trashy at the same time very powerful. The songs are short and snappy.

Ostensibly the album was split into the white side for the lighter moments- with the music written by Hugh and lyrics by JJ and the black side with music by JJ and lyrics by Hugh. Black and White’ was a superb slice of post punk psychedelia- all twisted landscapes and weird song structures, it was the Stranglers at their most obtuse and yet you could still file it under pop, and certainly a lot of people did as the album hammered into the charts at number 2. This was a band at the peak of its powers, their best album, their greatest moment (and that’s a tough call in a career stuffed full of genius moments) and with the sheer bloody nerve to stretch their sound to a vicious extreme.

Punk Rock was never meant to live as long as it has. It was meant to die tragically young and leave a beautiful corpse behind. But as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sex Pistols scene-igniting debut album, it’s impossible not to look back in awe at how enduring, endearing and enlightening punk rock has been in the years since its first fervent fling in 1977. So we decided to try figuring out our favourite releases from each year since then ‘til now.

ALBUM is decidedly punk, but much like Godflesh's Streetcleaner, had a lasting affect across almost every genre of heaviness. 10. Iggy and the Stooges - 'Raw Power'. Columbia, 1973) The Stooges were the most dangerous band of their time, an unrelenting cyclone of destruction that left a trail of blood, broken bottles and dirty syringes in their path. The album's essential vitality struck a chord with some, however, and it became the biggest-selling import ever, eventually seeing . release in an altered version. And it's still the quintessential punk album. 2. The Sex Pistols - 'Never Mind the Bullocks Here's the Sex Pistols'. still stands as the defining artifact of British punk.
