Album · 1977 · 7 Songs. That only P-Funk obsessives know the six-string brilliance of Eddie Hazel is a tragedy of pop music. Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs, Hazel's only solo album, is catnip for any fan of propulsive, tightly compressed black rock. Hazel-P-Funk's lead guitarist and George Clinton's songwriting foil for most of the band's early years-is a deft interpreter, here redefining The Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and The Mamas & The Papas' "California Dreamin’" as slow-simmering soul jams, punctuated by his righteous solos

Some copies include a pink WB 'Promotional Copy Not For Sale' sticker on front sleeve.

Exclusively for Prime members. Sample this album Artist (Sample). Eddie Hazel is the unsung master of guitar licks. I especially liked "California Dreaming" and "Physical Love" The whole album is a masterpiece by Mr. Hazel. I love guitar sols and he does not disappoint. Move over Jimmy Hendrix.

As bonus tracks, the Rhino CD included the four songs that made up the hard-to-find Jams From The Heart EP (1994).

For many years, Eddie Hazel's Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs was a holy grail of sorts for real funkateers, as it was the only thing released under Hazel's name while he was still alive, and it had been out of print for years. Truth be told, the album itself is a bit light. Barely over 30 minutes long, about half of the album consists of two covers (and a reprise), and the other tracks are little more than slightly fleshed-out jam sessions. But what the album lacks in songwriting and original material, Hazel more than makes up for with his guitar playing

Hazel never really garnered the acclaim he deserved as a pioneering funk-metal guitarist during his time, and this album showcases just how stunning his guitar abilities really were. Each of the six full-length songs on the brief album feature Hazel laying down fiery guitar solos over loose song structures while the rest of his bandmates hold the song together and the Brides of Funkenstein handle a majority of the vocals.
