The Desert Rose Band is a US country rock band from California founded by Chris Hillman (formerly of the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers) along with Herb Pedersen and John Jorgenson in 1985. Rounding out the original lineup were Bill Bryson on bass guitar, Jay Dee Maness on pedal steel guitar, and Steve Duncan on drums. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band charted several hit singles on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts until disbanding in February 1994.

Country Life Hanging Out Healing/Comfort. Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen. Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen at Edwards Barn. Hillman and Pedersen are joined by three expert musicians who they've worked with before, guitarist Larry Park, fiddler David Mansfield, and bassist Bill Bryson, and the ensemble plays with the light touch and emotional gravity of a top-notch bluegrass ensemble, even when tackling such Byrds classics as "Eight Miles High" and "Have You Seen Her Face.
The album City followed a year later, this time as "Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman featuring Gene Clark. They soon went their separate ways, and in 1982 Hillman issued a straightforward country record, Morning Sky. Two years later, he released Desert Rose, which contained the minor country hits "Somebody's Back in Town" and "Running the Roadblocks. In 1996, Hillman reunited with Desert Rose alum Herb Pedersen for Bakersfield Bound. Like a Hurricane followed in 1998. After a short hiatus, Hillman returned in 2002 with Way Out West, a sprawling 17-track collection of country, roots rock, Americana, and folk that reunited the artist with Pedersen and the Desert Rose Band. It was followed by The Other Side in 2005.
Terrible bass player. I mean, I seriously- it took me the first album, I think, to figure out something decent. Roger McGuinn, who you had as a guest, was the best musician in the bunch. He was a fantastic musician, he had been a backup player for so many famous folk groups and being an accompanist, you really learn how to supplement the song and the lyric, and when to play and when not to play, so Roger was really great so I learned a lot of my bass playing watching Roger. After a brief hiatus Hillman and Pedersen returned with Way Out West (2002), a 17-track collection of country, roots rock and Americana; this was followed by The Other Side (2005). In 2005 he also performed "Crazy from the Heart" on The Bellamy Brothers' album, Angels and Outlaws, Vol. 1. and "Live at Edwards Barn" with Herb Pedersen.
