New York City" is a song written by John Lennon that was first released on Lennon's and Yoko Ono's 1972 album Some Time in New York City. New York City" was inspired by Lennon's move to New York City and by the people he met in the city. He began writing the song soon after moving there in 1971, and a few weeks after his move he had completed the first verse, although the rest of the song was only a sketch.

John Lennon being interviewed on the street, New York, circa 1970. Art Zelin/Getty Images. This interview took place in New York City on December 8th, shortly after John and Yoko finished their albums in England. They came to New York to attend to the details of the release of the album, to make some films, and for a private visit I remember being in Wales and then, I can’t remember though. I will probably have to have a bloody primal to remember this.

Some Time in New York City (rendered Sometime in New York City on the record label, inner jacket, and original compact disc) is a studio album paired with the live album Live Jam as a double album. Released in 1972, it is John Lennon's third post-Beatles solo album, fifth with Yoko Ono, and third with producer Phil Spector. Some Time in New York Cityfared poorly critically and commercially compared to Lennon's previous two albums, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine.

Songs like John's "New York City" or the John/Yoko songs "Sunday Bloody Sunday," and "Attica State" feature John at his most rockin'. Yoko's contributions to the album are not of her best, but are still fitting with the context of the album. Although I do like the album, both John & Yoko have done better work

But here Lennon and Yoko, accompanied by New York's Elephant's Memory, sing and scream freely against sexism in "Woman Is the Nigger Of The World" and "Sisters, O Sisters. They protest incarceration in "John Sinclair," "Attica State," and "Born In A Prison," colonialism in "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "The Luck Of The Irish," and racism in "Angela. On the bonus disc, Lennon and Ono get it on with Zappa and the Mothers in live sets from London and New York. Things heat up considerably with "Cold Turkey," freak out with "Don't Worry Kyoko," and veer into the ridiculous with audience participation on "Scumbag.
