The Magnificent Moodies is the 1965 debut album by The Moody Blues, first released in the UK, and the first and only album featuring their R&B line-up of guitarist Denny Laine, bassist Clint Warwick, keyboardist Mike Pinder, flautist–percussionist Ray Thomas, and drummer Graeme Edge.

The Moody Blues are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1964, initially consisting of keyboardist Mike Pinder, t Ray Thomas, guitarist Denny Laine, drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The group came to prominence playing rhythm and blues music. They made some changes in musicians but settled on a line-up of Pinder, Thomas, Edge, guitarist Justin Hayward, and bassist John Lodge, who stayed together for most of the band's "classic era" into the early 1970s.

Lyrics to "Go Now" song by The Moody Blues: We've already said ‘Goodbye’  . Go now Before you see me cry. I don't want you to tell me Just what you intend to do now. 'Cause how many times do I have to tell you Darling, darling, I'm still in love With you now? We've already said ‘So long’ I don't want to see you go. Oh you had better go now. Go now. Go now Don't you even try telling me That you don't want me to end this way 'Cause, darling, darling, Can't you see I want you to stay? We've already said ‘Goodbye’. Since you've got to go Oh you had better go now. I don't want you to tell. Go Now - Moody Blues ‎(LP, Album, Club, M/Print).

Before The Moody Blues recorded it, this was an obscure soul single for Bessie Banks, who released it in 1964. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller produced her recording, and it was written by her husband Larry Banks. It is a heart-rending song where the singer has just broken up with his lover, and can't bear to see her anymore. This was The Moody Blues' second single, the first being the unsuccessful "Lose Your Money. Denny Cordell produced the album 'The Magnificent Moodies'. And Justin Hayward did not perform 'Go Now', he came after that in the second Moody Blues. Camille from Toronto, OhNever heard the Bessie Banks version, but will have to look it up as so many of you are impressed with it. Camille from Toronto, OhFirst of all, I'm floored to learn that this song, which I have loved since 1965 when I was only about 8 years old, is sung by the Moody Blues!

The Moody Blues debut long-player - known alternately as Go Now! or Moody Blues - was essentially a repository for various singles. The lineup included Ray Thomas (harmonica/vocals), Mike Pinder (keyboards/vocals), Denny Laine (vocals/guitar), Graeme Edge (drums), and Clint Warwick (bass/vocals). Yet despite their formidable penchant for potent R&B covers - such as their worldwide smash remake of Bessie Banks' "Go Now" - the band received little notice during this seminal period

The Best of the Moody Blues is a compilation album by the progressive rock band The Moody Blues, released on 28 January 1997. The album was also the Moody Blues' first compilation album to feature "Go Now", a song recorded in 1964 with then lead singer Denny Laine, who was replaced by Justin Hayward shortly after. All songs written by Justin Hayward except where noted.
