The temptation to assess such bands through the lens of their respective main groups’ outputs is a hard one to resist.

Sound - 6 RNDM is a new side project headed by Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament. In a random way, Joseph Arthur met Ament in 1999 at a Three Fish gig and they kept in touch, not recording any music together until this album. This jam album sounds expectedly unpolished. It lays a solid foundation, but I think it could've been expanded upon a bit more. The album features a very steady sound that doesn't vary much throughout the album.

RNDM has accomplished a rare feat - undercutting the criticisms leveled against most supergroups by not attempting to be some grandiose construct, instead bearing the mark of three buddies making music for the hell of i.
