Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham. Along with Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, the band's heavy, guitar-driven sound has led them to be cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal. Their style drew from a wide variety of influences, including blues, psychedelia and folk music.

List of songs recorded by Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin were an English rock band who recorded 108 songs between 1968 and 1980.

Led Zeppelin boasts one of the most impressive - and successful - discographies of the rock era. But the songs that made it to their albums don't necessarily tell the whole story, as evidenced by a feature in a recent issue of Classic Rock Magazine that traces the evolution of Jimmy Page's 'Swan Song,' which never appeared on a Zeppelin record - but came awfully close. The 'Swan Song' story starts in 1974, when Page brought elements of what was meant to become a four-part suite about the seasons to the sessions for 'Physical Graffiti. Compare the '74 'Swan Song' with 'Midnight Moonlight,' both embedded below: Led Zeppelin, 'Swan Song' (1974 rehearsal). The Firm, 'Midnight Moonlight'. Filed Under: Led Zeppelin.

The snide answer is rehearsal: Zeppelin knew their previous two returns to the stage weren't up to snuff so they spent a great deal of time woodshedding, realizing their reputation was on the line. And since none of the participants were truly tempted by an ongoing reunion, one where they would have to hawk the same set list at every corner of the globe for over a year, they decided to pour all they had into this one-off concert, betting that one great gig would trump a globe-conquering tour.

Led Zeppelin's second album was recorded during the precious little downtime they had on their endless 1969 world tour. It took them months to record in studios all across America and Europe, yet somehow it sounds cohesive. The track listing almost reads like a greatest hits collection: "Whole Lotta Love," "Thank You," "Heartbreaker," "What Is And What Should Never Be" and "Bring It On Home.
