Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, two miles (3 km) west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of standing stones, with each standing stone around 13 feet (. m) high, seven feet (. m) wide and weighing around 25 tons. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.

Walk in the footsteps of your Neolithic ancestors at Stonehenge – one of the wonders of the world and the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe. The central bluestones are rearranged to form a circle and inner oval. The earthwork Avenue connects Stonehenge with the river Avon. 1800-1600 BCPlans to Rearrange. Two rings of pits are dug around the stone settings, perhaps for a rearrangement of the stones that was never completed.

Stonehenge is the first CD made by the Japanese post-punk prog rock duo Ruins. Ruins, who is drummer/bandleader Tatsuya Yoshida and bassist/vocalist Kimoto Kazuyoshi on this album, released Stonehenge in 1990. In what has become a characteristically Ruins sound, this CD contains a series of angular, aggressive, adroit, and sometimes catchy songs. The shortest song, "Plexus," lasts for only one minute. It consists of tortured vocals and a repeated distorted bass and syncopated drum set ostinato in odd time. The longest song on the CD, ".

Mixed at Europa Sound. Thanks to all at Europa Sound, particularly Fred Schreier and Michael Bestmann. Thanks also to Friedrich Schütter for reading the Hebrew Bible Text on 'Genesis', to Rainer Hecht, Ralf Arnie, Lars Hidde, Gerhard Labudda, my wife Hanne, and to my co-everything Michael Chambosse. My sincere admiration for the musicians (including David Hanselmann) for their great work and creative enthusiasm! Geoffrey Ashe and Francis Hitching gave me much inspriration with their books. To the latter I dedicate the number "Earth Magic".

The discovery leaves two big ideas standing about how the massive pieces of the monument arrived at Salisbury Plain: entirely by human hand, or partly by glacier. As it looks today, 5,000-year-old Stonehenge has an outer ring of 20- to 30-ton sandstone blocks and an inner ring and horseshoe of 3- to 5-ton volcanic bluestone blocks. The very first one-a chunk of rock collected in Wales 20 years ago-was a perfect match to the Stonehenge bluestones. The geologists spent the next two years checking a piece of Stonehenge bluestone against other outcrops around Wales. We sampled extensively and did not find anything that came anywhere close," Ixer said. Related: "Stonehenge 'Hedge' Found, Shielded Secret Rituals?")

Stonehenge, on Salisbury plain in England, is one of the most recognizable monuments of the Neolithic world and one of the most popular, with over one million visitors a year. The people living in the fourth millennium BC who began work on Stonehenge were contemporary with the first dynasties of Ancient Egypt, and their efforts predate the building of the Pyramids  .

The more archaeologists study Stonehenge, the more mysteries unfold. But a coherent story is beginning to emerge. Stonehenge is one the UK’s most visited tourist attractions – and one of the world’s most enigmatic ancient monuments. People come from all over the world to stare at the iconic stone pillars and wonder how, and why, they were put in place. The site may be instantly recognisable, but there is far more to it than first meets the eye.
