On the back of the sleeve it reads: "In May (exact date unknown), in the very initial stages of preparing for their first album, The Smiths ran through a selection of songs at a rehearsal room in manager Joe Moss' Crazy Face jeans warehouse. Considering it was only recorded on cassette with a stereo microphone pointing into the room, the quality isn't too bad. Morrissey's vocals are a bit distorted but everything else is surprisingly clear

The Smiths is the eponymous debut studio album by English rock band the Smiths, released on 20 February 1984 by Rough Trade Records. After the original production by Troy Tate was felt to be inadequate, John Porter re-recorded the album in London, Manchester and Stockport during breaks in the band's UK tour during September 1983. The album was well received by critics and listeners, and reached number two on the UK Albums Chart, staying on the chart for 33 weeks

UPDATE: The demo was taken down but another one has surfaced. Who is the mysterious Pablo Cuckoo? Well, he’s indirectly responsible for the appearance online of a 39-minute demo tape recorded by The Smiths in the first half of 1983. It’s been in YouTube user hipsterdisco’s hands since 1997 but attempts to release it met legal obstacles

On the back of the sleeve it reads:
"In May (exact date unknown), in the very initial stages of preparing for their first album, The Smiths ran through a selection of songs at a rehearsal room in manager Joe Moss' Crazy Face jeans warehouse. The tape was recorded for Troy Tate, in order to give him somehting to work with before going into the studio. Considering it was only recorded on cassette with a stereo microphone pointing into the room, the quality isn't too bad. Morrissey's vocals are a bit distorted but everything else is surprisingly clear. The name 'Pablo Cuckoo' is the alias given to the recorder by the person who leaked the recording."
