Barlow's third solo album, Brace the Wave, was released on September 4, 2015 on Joyful Noise Recordings. It was recorded in six days with Justin Pizzoferrato, who also worked as a sound engineer for Dinosaur Jr. at Sonelab Studios in Massachusetts. The tracks from Brace the Wave feature Barlow's ukulele playing On 28 October 2016 Barlow released a 5 track EP entitled "Apocalypse Fetish" on Joyful Noise Recordings. Minsker, Evan (July 22, 2015). Lou Barlow Announces New Album Brace the Wave".

Barlow's melodic sense hasn't changed all that much in a quarter-century, and he's still obsessed with the ups and downs of romantic relationships, but maturity has done him a lot of good, and Brace the Wave finds him sounding stronger and more confident as a solo artist than he has in the past.

Lou Barlow invites you to learn with him on his third solo album, his rawest and most emotionally candid set to date. 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Dinosaur Jr’s debut album, Dinosaur, the neglected older sibling of the band’s most essential trilogy of albums. That in itself is a blandly unremarkable fact, but it is one that is thrown into some kind of clarity when listening to the latest works of Dinosaur Jr’s chief creative talents. The controversy that has dogged the on-again, off-again relationship of J Mascis and Lou Barlow down the years may well have had its upsides

Temporarily out of stock. Only 2 left in stock (more on the way). I recorded ‘brace the wave’ in about 6 days with Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab studios in Easthampton Massachusetts ( I have recently moved back to the area after 17 years in LA ). Justin was the engineer for the 3 Dinosaur Jr ‘reunion’ LP’s, beyond, farm and I bet on sky. My ease with Justin meant I approached the sessions with a focus and confidence I don’t usually feel. Songs like redeemed , wave’ and moving’ reprise my early methods of tuning my ukelele down low and writing the song in the moment, during the recording process.

Lou Barlow premiered the track, "Moving" off of his upcoming "Brace The Wave" album on NPR yesterday (August 4th). Brace The Wave" is set to be released on Sept 4th later on this year. barlow-moving?mc cid cf839146b3&mc eid 1a891a2f4d. Submitted By Atmosphericrex. Download Brace the Wave. Album: Brace the Wave. Genre: Singer, Songwriter. Lou Barlow is best known for his incursions into lo-fi and alt-rock with Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr respectively, but like his sometime bandmate J Mascis, his solo material is a different proposition. Barlow’s third solo outing is a sparsely recorded collection, with nine intimate tunes that run the gamut of the acoustic folk spectrum
