John Zorn, Bar Kokhba Sextet - The Circle Maker Zevulun flac album

Bar Kokhba Sextet brings together six core members of the Masada family under the leadership of John Zorn. The music act is an improvisational group from New York's best downtown artists, including Cyro Baptista on percussion, Marc Ribot on guitar, Greg Cohen on bass, Joey Baron on drums and Mark Feldman, Erik Friedlander on strings. According to Tzadik, John Zorn's music label, the band's music is "Sephardic exotica for young moderns".

The Circle Maker is a double album by John Zorn featuring Zorn's Masada compositions performed by the Masada String Trio (on Disc One: Issachar) and the Bar Kokhba Sextet (on Disc Two: Zevulun) which was released in 1998 on the Tzadik label.

Drawing from John Zorn's Masada songbook are the Masada String Trio and the Bar Kokhba Sextet. Each ensemble fills one CD with beautiful chamber jazz woven around a heart of Jewish melodies. This is a fitting successor to the other Masada works that Zorn doesn't actually perform on - the first Masada chamber project, Bar Kokhba, and Film Works, Vol. 8, whose recording session wrapped up weeks before this weekend date of December 1997.

The Circle Maker is a music studio album recording by MASADA STRING TRIO, BAR KOKHBA SEXTET (essive Rock) released in 1998 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. But the musicians and the music both are real Zorn/Masada. For those, who is not very familar with Zorn music, I would like to say, that this album in it's musical content is pure Masada: say, Klezmer + modern Jazz. The second one (Zevulun) contains the music of Bar Kokhba Sextet, which in fact is the same Masada String Trio plus guitarist Marc Ribot and drum/percussion pair.

Disc two, Zevulun, features the Bar Kokhba Sextet: Cohen, Feldman and Friedlander, joined by the gifted Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista, guitar wizard Marc Ribot and jazz great Joey Baron on drums.
