Rooted in the blues sound, the classic recordings on the Hammond B-3 organ of the '50s, '60s and '70s provided a jagged, funky edge for electrified jazz music. Though the sound had pretty much died out by the late '70s, the '80s and '90s brought a resurgence in popularity, with new recordings by John Patton, as well as new bands like Medeski Martin and Wood picking up the baton. This collection brings together some of the greats of the Hammond organ including Jimmy Smith, Freddie Roach, John Patton, and Lou Donaldson.
