The Blue Yusef Lateef is an album by t Yusef Lateef recorded in 1968 and released on the Atlantic label. All compositions by Yusef Lateef except as indicated.

Lateef was big on concept recordings. He and Dorn did no less than ten during their tenure together at Atlantic. This one examines, in a painterly way, all the different ranges of emotion contained within the blues genre. With a band that included Detroit jazz gods Roy Brooks on drums and Kenny Burrell on guitar, Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Hugh Lawson on piano, Sonny Red on alto, Bob Cranshaw on electric bass, and a very young Cecil McBee on acoustic bass, you get the idea that Lateef was after something different.

Talk about Yusef Lateef - The Blue Yusef Lateef

Enone
Begin the Atlantic years with Joel Dorn. Yusef makes his transformation from a caterpillar into a butterfly (or moth based on your tastes). This is a crazy one and he probably lost his audience on this. It has a cover of Morning called Like it Is and it is primarily soul jazz with some breaks. It has this crazy vocal track sung by Yusef that sounds like a sarcastic "Asian" yodel. You see great lineup with some new faces.
