Stone Age is a compilation by The Rolling Stones released on the Decca label in 1971. It reached on the UK charts. The Stones were strongly against this release. In full-page ads in Record Mirror and NME on 20 March 1971, they stated, "We didn't know this record was going to be released. It is, in our opinion, below the standard we try to keep up, both in choice of content and cover design.

The Stones' most downbeat, druggy album, with new guitarist Mick Taylor stretching into jazz and country. Key Track: "Brown Sugar" was the big hit, but "Sway" is one of the band's spookiest pro-evil anthems. Best Keith Moment: His guitar battle with Taylor throughout "Bitch. Between the Buttons’ (1967). Key Track: "Something Happened to Me Yesterday," an old-time music-hall ditty about an acid trip. Best Mick Moment: The slobbering lust of "My Obsession.

The Beatles quit the concerts to concentrate on the studio. The Stones, being the live band they always were, quit the studio to concentrate on the concerts.

Aftermath was the first album of Jagger-Richards originals and the first album the Stones recorded as a coherent whole. It showcases the sauciest Mick, the broodiest Keith, the prettiest Brian, the funkiest Bill, and Charlie-now and forever, Charlie. It's blues-rock flower power, but all the flowers are painted black, with Brian's marimba and dulcimer adding color to these tough, lean, desperately lonely songs.
