The Annual is a series of compilation albums currently published annually by London-based electronic dance music brand Ministry of Sound. Described as Ministry of Sound's "flagship" series, the popular albums feature house, big beat and trance tracks popular in nightclubs, especially those in the United Kingdom.

Sound Theories Vol. I & II is a 2007 album by American guitarist Steve Vai. The album was recorded with the Metropole Orchestra in Netherlands in mid-2004/2005 and released on June 26, 2007. Volume I features Vai playing guitar with the orchestra, which has itself earned worldwide acclaim by backing artists ranging from Mike Keneally, Terry Bozzio, Tony Bennett and Natalie Cole to Nancy Wilson and the Yellowjackets.

And, their new offering, Volume Two, actually improves on their previous album, bucking the tradition of sophomore slumps and building on their previous road-map with stronger songwriting and a more consistent sound. Most writers compare the sound of She and Him to 70s AM radio and I admit I don’t really understand this reference point.

The Second Annual Report. Artificial Intelligence. The Chronic reinvented the West Coast's sound from the baby boomer's Beach Boys to the Death Row bad boys overnight. Dr. Dre's lush, studio-recorded instruments seemed huge compared to the last decade of drum machines and sample collections. On their second album, the Allman Brothers transmogrified from mere blues-rockers to an assemblage creating an entirely new kind of Southern music. It helped to have the preternaturally sweet slide guitar of brother Duane, but Idlewild South offered open-source blueprints for the Allmans' longhaired brethren across the region and beyond, including Eric Clapton, who promptly drafted Duane for Derek and the Dominos' Layla and Assorted Love Songs.

The Second Annual Report of Throbbing Gristle. In a triumphant vindication of sound over image, the real motivation for this re-presentation of a back catalog is that all five of these five albums have been remastered by Chris Carter himself, a labor of love whose consequences I intend to unpack, album-by-album, below. On the face of it, the idea of an "audiophile TG" makes for a jarring proposition: The band always seemed weirdly proud of the dismal fidelity of its early recordings, and its stated objective was to be repellent and un-assimilable.
