The Bible 2 is the sixth studio album by Arizona-based folk punk band AJJ. It was released on August 18, 2016. The album is the first released after officially changing their name to AJJ in February 2016. The band performed several of the album's songs on the preceding tour. Songs like "Goodbye, Oh Goodbye", "Cody's Theme", "Golden Eagle", "Small Red Boy", "When I'm A Dead Boy", and "No More Shame, No More Fear, No More Dread" have been played live prior to the album announcement.

The Bible 2 carries all of the flaws of Christmas Island, and then some. While Christmas Island still had enough good ideas on it to save the album from being entirely forgettable, a lot of them have been lost on their latest effort. As previously mentioned with the album title and sales decisions, AJJ still want to be a punk band but without the punk.

AJJ successfully made the jump from being a two-piece folk punk act into an actual full band with 2014’s Christmas Island. In that respect (and others) it was very much a transitional record for them

And, despite my whimpers, there are some great lyrics across The Bible 2, and some of the best songs here are the best AJJ has ever written. 7th grade was hard enough/ Someone thought that they knew me/ If I stay in bed long enough/ They’ll go to church without me. It’s packed with honest pathos and relatable imagery, while continuing the album’s themes of childhood, and how childhood experience forms us.

The Bible 2 is the band’s sixth studio album, following on the heels of 2014’s Christmas Island, which dealt with Bonnette’s grieving process over his late grandfather. This album seeks closure and understanding-but Bonnette didn’t know that when he was in the songwriting process. I don’t write songs with goals, he says. Bonnette considers the songs of AJJ to be nonfiction, though the nonfiction component of their work is the emotion behind and within it. Bonnette exaggerates certain metaphors (like setting a baby on fire in Cody’s Theme ) to describe a very concrete emotion. He’s also always approached songwriting solo, which is partially due to the fact that the members live in different cities across the nation-restricting their practice time of the new record to soundchecks before shows-and just because that’s what he’s done since AJJ formed as a duo over a decade ago.
