Riverdance: Music from the Show is an album of the music composed by Bill Whelan for the Riverdance theatrical show, and performed by the show's own musicians and singers. The recording was engineered and mixed at Windmill Lane Studios in 1995. In 1997, it won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album for 1996. The album was released four times: in 1995, 1997, 2003 and 2005, each time with a different cover, sometimes different versions or mixes of the songs, and a slightly different track list.

Riverdance is a theatrical show consisting mainly of traditional Irish music and dance. With a score composed by Bill Whelan, it originated as an interval performance act during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, featuring Irish dancing champions Jean Butler, Michael Flatley and the vocal ensemble Anúna. Shortly afterwards, husband and wife production team John McColgan and Moya Doherty expanded it into a stage show, which opened in Dublin on 9 February 1995

Seven years on from its World Premiere in Dublin in February 1995, over 13 million people have seen Riverdance worldwide and it is still the most successful and biggest dance show in the world. The show has seen many changes over the years, and this latest recording, filmed in Geneva, captures the show in its newest production. New dance routines and new costume designs make Riverdance even more spectacular than before, while at the same time the show still features all of the original ground-breaking numbers that made Riverdance the world's most popular dance show.

Bill Whelan writes: ‘The idea for a Riverdance Symphonic Suite has been on my radar for some time. Over the years I have often had requests from foreign orchestras for a full-length concert piece containing the music from the show. As my original score incorporated traditional instruments, it was not always easy to assemble the various ethnic elements for a concert in say, Japan. So what I have done with this new score is to present all the themes fromRiverdance in a way that is playable by a full symphony orchestra anywhere in the world, without the traditional musicians.
