Ana Moura (born 1979) is an internationally recognized Portuguese fado singer, and the youngest fadista to be nominated for a Dutch Edison Award. Ana Cláudia Moura Pereira was born 17 September 1979, in Santarém, Portugal. Ana Moura's debut album was Guarda-me a Vida na Mão (2003), followed by Aconteceu (2005). She sang in various nightspots in Lisbon and became known on television, performing fado with Antonio Pinto Basto.

In June of 2008, Ana Moura made her triumphant debut at two of Portugal s legendary venues the Coliseu do Porto and Lisbon s Coliseu dos Recreios. Her performances were termed unforgettable by the audience and the press. Special guests included two leading figures in the history of fado Beatriz da Conceição and Maria da Fé as well as Moura s music producer and collaborator, Jorge Fernando. Fantastic to hear Ana Moura live. This album shows her performing her some of the most iconic Fado songs along with the more contemporary take on Fado that Moura is known for. Highly recommended for all Ana Moura fans.

At the time, Moura had performed with the Stones and collaborated with saxophonist Tim Reis on recordings of two Stones numbers. On the back of all this comes Coliseu, a live album recorded and released nationally (. in Portugal) back in 2008. The album is being given international distribution due to the aforementioned successes, though it captures an earlier moment, between national and international fame. Moura had recently released her third album Para Além da Saudade and the concert in Lisbon's beautiful and prestigious Coliseu dos Recreios mixed songs from that album with others from her first two releases, as well as fados as yet unrecorded by the fadista.

Ana Moura sings these songs, new and old, in a traditional style, clearly influenced by one of the Fado greats, Amalia Rodrigues (though Moura’s vibrato is less Piaf-like). The music is often melancholy, though not depressing; some tempos are upbeat, but the words are soaked in saudade (an indigenous term for fatalistic, hopeless longing). Moura has a beautiful, strong, dusky voice, sometimes almost too dark. This recording is from a 2008 concert at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon; the hall is large, and the sonics are silken and sumptuous. The balance and interplay among all four musicians are perfect. Moura is entrancing, especially in the ravishing Sou do Fado (I Belong to Fado), and the songs are well-crafted and charming.
