Generation X is the first studio album by English punk rock band Generation X, released 17 March 1978 by Chrysalis Records. It was produced by Martin Rushent. One single, "Ready Steady Go", was issued in February 1978 prior to the album's release which reached in the United Kingdom's Singles Chart. Generation X was recorded at TW Studios in Fulham, West London, during November-December 1977, with the producer Martin Rushent and the engineer Alan Winstanley.

Cocky and commercial - and sporting some of Billy Idol's better lyrics - Generation X is more like glam or straight power pop with punk themes than pure punk. The guitar freakout at the end of "Youth Youth Youth" is the sort of noodly guitar jam you might not expect from a supposed punk band, and "Kiss Me Deadly" is a precursor to the power ballads of the '80s hair bands.

Generation X were way ahead of their time. Oddly, they were often mocked in the media for being a group of good looking guys who could actually play their instruments. The songs are very solid and for that this album should be in EVERY punk collection. Billy Idol and Tony James were a great writing team and Bob Derwood Andrews provided great guitar work while Mark Laff kept a rocking drum beat. Songs like Kiss Me Deadly and Ready, Steady, Go are punk rock classics but there's not a bad tune on the album. It should be noted that this album was released in the .
