In no way do I intend to denigrate Between Light & Shadow, but the maturity garnered by Oblivion Myth leading up to Inside The Mirror brings to mind Sweden’s Darkwater, whom made similar musical steps and strides between its 2007 debut Calling The Earth To Witness and sophomore effort Where Stories End from 2010.

Talk about Oblivion Myth - Between Light And Shadow

Aurizar
Competent, unique low-budget American power/prog.Released in 2008, BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW is Oblivion Myth's second of three albums (as of this writing). The band hails from Nashville, Tennessee, and play American power-prog metal in the general style of Iced Earth, Fates Warning, Priest, Maiden, and Wretch, yet with a lyrical focus on spiritual/biblical themes, with a couple of songs of the "turn or burn" variety (at least on this album). But, don't get me wrong, they're not thematically one-dimensional. If you can roll with this and don't mind their biblically dubious motto (notice I said "biblically"), they're definitely worth checking out. They have a unique sound, musically and vocally. At first I wasn't too crazy about this album; the occasionally sloppy drumming/timing didn't help, yet this is only obvious on a couple occasions and you can't fault a band for aiming high. The more I listened, the more impressed I was. The compositions are dense and labyrinth-ian so it takes a while to lock-on to specific songs. The production is obviously low-budget, but they did quite well with the funds they had, so don't let that prevent you from picking up this CD. The production improved significantly for their follow-up, 2016's INSIDE THE MIRROR.GRADE: B
