The few exceptions that were only released on CD retain their original CD cover. Thus for the first time ever, music lovers have the opportunity of discovering every single one of Rubinstein's original albums in a single issue. The second Piano Quartet in Eb k493 is more placid temperamentally but ironically sounds livelier, more electric. It is one of the best versions that I have heard. Peers: ps; ; Brendel/Alban Berg Quartet/EMI (k493) and Zehetmair et al (k478/Philips. The performances here of Mozart's Piano Quartets are simply legendary in their absolute perfection of interpretation: no one even comes close. It is here one can see why Rubinstein was such a genius of a pianist whose standard is yet to be surpassed by even the most talented. The label seems to be discontinuing various CDs where both Rubinstein and the Guarneri Quartet performed together.

Mozart's Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, K. 478, is considered the first major piece composed for piano quartet in the chamber music repertoire. The piece is scored for violin, viola, cello, and piano. Mozart received a commission for three quartets in 1785 from the publisher Franz Anton Hoffmeister.
