Siglo XX is a Belgian group from Genk who made gloomy and doomy coldwave music à la Joy Division in the eighties. Their name (which can both be pronounced as Siglo Iks Iks or as Siglo Vingt) stems from an anarchist movement during the Spanish civil war. Their second single "The Art of War" got the group a small but very loyal following that remained faithful to the group all through the eighties.

The album was recorded at Rick Rubin's allegedly haunted recording studio. The title is a play on words of the Chinese book The Art of War by Sun Tzu. This is the band's only album with Aaron Zilch on samplers, and David Rogers and Wayne Kile together on guitar. After the departure of Zilch, Fouler remained the band's sole keyboardist/sampler.

About "The Art Of War". This album is based on the writings of General Sun Tsu, the celebrated military tactician from ancient China. Just as Sun Tsu’s Art of War book has 13 chapters, each dealing with a different aspect of warfare, the album has 13 tracks – each telling of a different historical battle. Some of Sabaton’s most popular anthems, such as Ghost Division and 40:1, are found on this album. Sabaton fact: The Art of War was Sabaton’s first true concept album and set the creative direction their future works would come to take.
