David Kramer did, ironically, become quite the household name as the face of the SA Volkswagen Microbus advertisements after being recruited by Volkswagen in 1983 for a campaign that lasted over a decade. In 1986 Kramer attained the rights to his catalogue from Mountain Records and released the seminal "Baboondogs" album under his own "Blik Records" (BliK Music) banner, and the following year the hugely successful stage musical "District Six" (a ed telling of the forced resettlements) was openend at the Baxter Theatre.
DAVID KRAMER is one of South Africa's most recognised and successful songwriters and performers. He is also a multi-award winning playwright, director and producer of musicals. His interest and passion has, for forty years been to explore a South African identity and tell stories with song. He rocketed into the public eye with a number 1 hit, BLOKKIES JOUBERT a portrait of a has-been Springbok rugby player, closely followed by another huge Top Ten hit, ROYAL HOTEL. Many hits were to follow.

All 6 of his albums released on the Mountain label were awarded gold or platinum status. This was the beginning of a television and print campaign that won the hearts of South Africans
