Jon Hassell (born March 22, 1937) is an American trumpet player and composer active since the 1960s. He is best known for developing the musical concept known as "Fourth World," which unifies ideas from minimalism, various world music sources, and his electronic manipulation of the trumpet.

Power Spot finds Jon Hassell at pretty much peak 'power'. Surrounded by musicians of both musical and technical excellence and with inventive interchangeable rhythm sections, Jon weaves his sinuous ragas and breathing 'scales' through a lush, dense backing of faux third-world junglescapes. This music is a bit like a subscription to "National Geographic World Jazz", a musical magazine impeccably illustrated, relieving the listener of having to travel to the bug infested, stiflingly humid and dangerous realities!

Power Spot ‎(LP, Album). ECM Records, ECM Records.

Power Spot opens with the surging, polyrhythmic title track featuring Hassell's sinuous trumpet lines and dense electronic percussion from one of the album's most significant collaborators, . Ambient keyboard textures drone in the background and, together with the percussion, form a mesmerizing tapestry over which Hassell's trumpet glides and soars.

Only for completionists (0%). The music, like most of Hassell's work, consists of Hassell's electronically treated trumpet soloing over lush tribal rhythms

Jon Hassell Last Night The Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes In The Street (ECM 2xLP, 2009). The stellar line-up includes live sampler Jan Bang, guitarist Eivind Aarset, percussionist Helge Norbakken, bassist Peter Freeman and Was (Not Was) keyboard player Jamie Muhoberac.
