Built from Sticks (aka the solo meanderings of Brisbane slo-core musician Jamie Curran - also of instrumental outfit Ghost Notes) will be launching his new album at the Junk Bar on the 22nd November. This will be a rare solo outing for Jamie, who recently finished recording his first studio-recorded album (at Incremental Records), a marked change from his previous home-recorded approach e minimalist artist cautiously adding new layers of sound, leading to a more dynamic and diverse offering.

Sticks and Stones (stylized as Sticks + Stones for its European release and Sticks & Stones for its North American and Australian release) is the debut studio album by English recording artist Cher Lloyd. It was released on 4 November 2011, through Syco Records. Lloyd co-wrote five songs and worked with various producers and songwriters for her first full-length release, including The Runners, Kevin Rudolf, and Savan Kotecha, among others. Lloyd herself called the album a "jukebox.

Today we will be covering intervals, specifically half-steps and whole-step. Many people consider music theory to be a complex subject – and while it can be – it is built upon simple principles. Much like mathematics, if you understand the foundational principles, you can build your knowledge from there. In explaining the simple fundamentals of music theory, it will make it much easier in the future to grasp the more complex subjects. Intervals are simply the distance between notes (or more accurately, the distance between tones)

Built From Sticks - Standing Still.

It's constructed using 3 half steps and 1 whole step (Duh). I started writing out the scale in C, I also wrote out the enharmonics so I could start writing out as many of the arpeggios you can squeeze out of this thing. So we have C C D E F F G A A 12 notes, 9 tones. The big problem with this is that tertian harmony was built for use in the diatonic system. This is not a diatonic mode we're talking about. So, you can certainly extract these harmonies, and I encourage you to do so and to experiment with them, but you'll find that making chord progressions and such will be strange. Therefore, we must look for other patterns in the collection

The whole-half Step formula is the perfect way to build and recognize the pattern of any scale. In the diagram below you can see the whole steps from one string to the next that occur in the G major scale. I left out any other notes of the G major scale for the sake of visibility. You can see a whole step from A to B, moving up one string and down 3 half steps (3 frets). A whole step from D to E, up one string down 3 half steps, A whole step from G to A, up one string down 3 half steps, A whole step from C to D, up one string down 2 half steps, A whole step from E to F up one string down 3 half steps. All the notes of the G major scale with whole and half steps: ASSIGNMENTS: 1 – Write.
