Vanessa Paradis Lyrics - Gotta Have It : I know where I shouldn't be You take my heart and drink it for tea You mix me up and walk out the door. But I gotta have it Watch out for the damage From New York straight to Paris I'm talking Lenny Kravitz. Whenever he is around He puts me six feet under the ground And when you call he can never be found 'Cause he's always out on the town. He is so funky and he's looking good And he does it like a good man should And I would love him if I only could But his heart is like a piece of wood.

Vanessa Paradis is the self-titled third album and English debut by popular French singer Vanessa Paradis. It was originally released in 1992. Lenny Kravitz, who was Paradis' partner at the time, produced and co-wrote the album. The album was one of her most successful and most critically acclaimed, proving to be both popular in France and the UK. It spawned several successful singles, including one of her most recognisable songs "Be My Baby" and the hit single "Sunday Mondays"

That would be a mistake; without Vanessa Paradis' voice this album simply would not sound as good as it undoubtedly does. 6 people found this helpful. Great music from Lenny Kravitz. One of my favourite album from Vanessa Paradis.

Notes

This white label’s 12' release was sold in the record stores in 1993. It is not a promo copy, a limited edition, a numbered, a stickered, or an unofficial one. The name of the artists is printed on label sticker, and matrix / runouts only. In 1993, the release was formally called and known as 'Vanessa in paradise' by V.I.P., and no Vanessa Paradis credits were mentioned anywhere, in despite of the A side track’s lead vocals (B side is an instrumental version).

Produced by the DJ's for the DJ's, the vocal side was cutted with three large fast and spaced spiral bands, synchronized to three short breaks of the track. The first appears at the end of the intro, the second and the last one, at the begining, and at the end of the main break (as shown on the pictures). This kind of cutting was very rare, or never seen before 1993 (It could make of this release a 'very limited one', but nothing is written as is, here).

This french V.I.P.'s act was launched in March 1993, few weeks after the famous 'Vanessa Paradis' LP release. The producers have probably extracted the full acapella song from the 11th and last track of the album, on which one vocals were recorded on the right or the left chanel (at the opposite of the arrangements), only...

In front of its large success, producers and record companies had have to clear as quick as possible, this white label release, already played on the radios. In May 1993, Columbia decided to launch the 'Paris Red - Gotta Have It (From New York Straight To Paris)' release, with additionals german DJ's edits and a new singer. The label has also cleared the copyrights with this one, including the names of the original songwriters and publishing companies, as Miss Bessie Music, associated to Lenny Kravitz productions and the Vanessa Paradis album.

Finally, they also decided to do not credit V.I.P. anywhere (whereas the Paris Red version is using exactly the same arrangements, sounds, and also, the same male backing vocals, uncredited anywhere here, and probably recorded by V.I.P. themselves, at the origin... More, the female vocals of this second version seems always to be the same as Vanessa' samples, originally used by V.I.P., with an additional Paris Red's backing vocal only...).

Please, do not confuse this release with :

'Vanessa Paradis - Gotta Have It (Live)' (original single release)
'V.I.P. - Vanessa In Paradise / Gotta Have It' (the same without sticker)
'Vanessa Paradis - Gotta Have It (Remixes)' (Paris Red's pre-release, pressed by CBS / Sony)
'Paris Red - Gotta Have It (From New York Straight To Paris)' (1993 second remixes release)
'VIP 2002 - Gotta Have It' (2001 third german remixes release)
'VIP* - Gotta Have It' (2002 fourth UK remixes release)
(don't know why these two last ones are using VIP as artists...)

Please, do not looking for it anymore, the first original remix is this one !
