Jah Tubby's Sound System was established in the 1970's in North London and by 1977 were playing against the biggest Sound Systems of the day. In early 1979 they had a Thursday night residency at Cubies club in Hackney and a Friday night one at Kippers Youth Club, Aldgate. By the middle of the year they had added a Sunday night session at the Noreik in Tottenham.

The first is Hopeton 'Scientist' Brown, raised in the same Waterhouse sector of Kingston where King Tubby had his famous studio. Brown was interested in electronics from an early age & had contact with Tubby's business before he began a period of employment as a mixing engineer at Tubby's in the late 1970's.
