Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud. has been added to your Cart. Miles Davis' moody, evocative music for the Louis Malle movie (translation: The Lift To The Scaffold) comes in two different forms on this reissue. There is a chronological sketch pad of tracks which didn't appear in the original release, or appeared in altered form, and tracks 16-26, which comprise the body of the original release, complete with the odd dollop of post-production echo to italicize the film's dramatic content. If he had done these songs as a solo album, they would've been his best album. It's a pity more directors didn't give him the encouragement and funding to produce long environmental tracks the movie industry permits, rather than the h tracks that apparently prevented Davis from producing more work of this caliber. Ascenseur Pour L'échafaud is a 1958 French film directed by Louis Malle. It was released as Lift To The Scaffold in the UK. The film was nothing special, but it did accomplish one thing: it proposed a new ideal of cinematic realism, a new way to look at a woman. He showed Davis a screening of the movie, and afterwards Miles knew exactly how to portray the smoky hazed or frantic scenes through sonic imagery. For the first time since its original release in 1958, Music On Vinyl combined the original soundtrack and the additional recordings and created an essential 2LP set with the original artwork. 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
