Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive, round-shaped bacterium that is a member of the Firmicutes, and it is a usual member of the microbiota of the body, frequently found in the upper respiratory tract and on the skin. It is often positive for catalase and nitrate reduction and is a facultative anaerobe that can grow without the need for oxygen.
t Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a global public health problem, associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. The MRSA infections can be hospital- or community-acquired. Hospital-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA) characteristically colonizes or infects hospitalized individuals with predisposing risk factors, usually harbours SCCmec type I, II or III, and is multi-drug resistant (MDR). in episodes of epidemic and pandemic proportions.
Top Contributors - Kory Reynolds, Sarah Tassinari, Elaine Lonnemann, Evan Thomas and Kim Jackson. t Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is defined as a type of bacterial staph infection that is non-responsive to antibiotics normally prescribed to treat such infections.
t Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria are types of SA that have become resistant to some antibiotics that are used to treat SA infections. This problem was once mostly found in hospitals, however new strains of MRSA (CA-MRSA) now make up about 1 in 5 SA infections in the community. Why are MRSA a concern? People with MRSA are not more likely to have a serious infection, but if they do the infection can be much harder to treat because of resistance to common antibiotics.

t Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has emerged globally as a significant public resistance nosocomial problem both in human and veterinary medicine. In recent years, the so-called MRSA (LA-MRSA) has become an additional focus of concern.
MRSA (t Staphylococcus aureus ) and MRSE (t S. epidermidis ) with a vancomycin MIC < 1 μg/mL can be treated with vancomycin (same dose as earlier). MRSA and MRSE with a vancomycin MIC 1 μg/mL, or for patient with vancomycin allergy, can be treated with linezolid 600 mg IV or PO q12h.
