Hello It's Me" is a song written by American musician Todd Rundgren. It was the first original song he ever wrote, and was first recorded by his group Nazz as the B-side of "Open My Eyes" (1968). In September 1973, his solo version was issued as a single, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Hello It's Me" was a very slow-moving hit; the Something/Anything? album was released in February 1972, and it only became a hit when radio stations started playing it over a year later and the song was subsequently released as a single. It didn't hit the Top 40 until November 1973, and by then, Rundgren's psychedelic album A Wizard, a True Star had been out for eight months. The 1968 version of this song by The Nazz was originally relegated to the B-side of another single, "Open My Eyes. Ron Robin told us how the single got flipped. Says Ron: "How 'Hello It's Me' by Nazz became a 'sort of' hit nationally was quite an accident. He was promoting 'Open My Eyes,' a terrific hard driving rocker.
ROBIN BECK first came to prominence singing the Coca-Cola theme tune 'The First Time', scoring a major international hit in the process. Although this was to be the general public's inauguration into the lady's work, Beck had in fact been plugging away on the music scene for quite some time, having issued her debut album, the heavily Disco orientated 'Sweet Talk', in 1979. This soon forgotten opus, featuring backing vocals from no less a figure than Luther Vandross, included a cover version of TODD RUNDGREN's 'Hello It's Me'. The 1989 album 'Trouble Or Nothin' was produced by DESMOND CHILD and boasts guest contributions from TOTO guitarist STEVE LUKATHER, GUY MANN DUDE and backing vocals from KISS front man PAUL STANLEY amongst others.
