Will Holt (born April 30, 1929, Portland, Maine, USA – died May 31, 2015, Los Angeles, California, USA) was an American singer, songwriter, librettist and lyricist. He began his music career as a folk performer during the 1950's, when he made early and influential recordings of such songs as "Sinner Man" and "Lemon Tree", for which he wrote the English lyrics. He later became known as an interpreter of the music of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, and made significant contributions to Broadway theater during the 1970's. Father of Courtney Holt.

Lyricist Will Holt provides more of a mixed bag, perhaps inevitably given the melodramatic subject matter. The liner notes indicate, though, that the book and lyrics were directly adapted from transcripts of interviews they conducted with inner-city children, in which context his work seems far more impressive. What's more, the performers are all strong - none stand out, as they're all children and none is allowed by the format to create a character through an arc of songs, but all have the voice required for their music. The class of this album extends to its sound quality (analog distortion is at a minimum; but for the arrangements it could have been recorded recently) and to the dazzling package (extensive liner notes and beautiful photos). 150 Music put a great deal of loving care into this release, and I hope it pays off.

Will Holt, a songwriter whose lyrics for the 1970 musical The Me Nobody Knows were nominated for a Tony Award, and whose Latin-tinged folk song Lemon Tree became a musical signpost of the 1960s, covered by myriad artists and finding its way into advertising and the literature of the Vietnam War, died on Sunday in Los Angeles. He was 86. The death was confirmed by his son, Courtney, who said his father had Alzheimer’s disease. Mr. Holt spent much of his musical career creating theater projects.

Put John Holt on the UK map as a great vocalist his style so distinct. likened to the Perry Como of the Caribbean The Original and first pressings had the less flattering black and white image on textured card with the 50/50 orange and white labels. One of those lush and cool albums that every home should have a copy of without question. and tape version in the car. Hard to choose one standout track as all are magical in the own ways, I can only really have a joint two bests/faves Morning Of My Life and Mr Bojangles, A great way to treasure Mr Holt's contribution to the reggae scene.

It’s well known that guitarist Gary Holt has been compiling ideas for a while, but in a new interview at the 2018 Heavy Metal Hall of History ceremony, Holt gives a definitive no on a new Slayer album. Last summer, we caught up with Slayer frontman Tom Araya. Though he hadn’t been penning new material, he spoke about Holt’s tenacity for getting new ideas on the table. Araya compared Holt to a little kid prodding an adult for attention, feeling out the Slayer guys for when a new album process may start. However, it looks like Slayer won’t be making a 13th studio album.
