Mozart: Symphonies & Serenades (Klemperer Legacy). It's not hard to see why, since he conducted Mozart with authority, never lapsing into either heavy-handed Romanticism or its opposite, treating the music like a fragile piece of porcelain

The Quintet in E♭ major for Piano and Winds, K. 452, was completed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on March 30, 1784 and premiered two days later at the Imperial and Royal National Court Theater in Vienna. Shortly after the premiere, Mozart wrote to his father that "I myself consider it to be the best thing I have written in my life. It is scored for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. There are three movements: Largo – Allegro moderato (E♭ major, 44). Larghetto (B♭ major, 38). Allegretto (E♭ major, 22).

90 (580b) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Orchestra/Ensemble: Gaudier Ensemble Period: Classical Written: ?1780s; Vienna, Austria. Ravishingly delightful. American Record Guide. It was during this period that he composed the Quintet in E flat major for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, K452. Dated 30 March 1784 by the composer, it was given its first performance on 1 April at the Burgtheater with Mozart himself at the piano. Despite this opinion, K452 is in fact Mozart's only quintet with piano, and the combination of instruments used is itself unusual.

It must be said that, for all its awe-inspiring virtuosity, astounding ensemble, and incredible tonal opulence, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Ensemble's 2006 recording of Mozart's B flat major Gran Partita and E flat major Wind Serenade lacks the three qualities essential to any great Mozart performance: grace, soul, and humanity. So while one may be truly impressed by its effortless technique, one may wish there was more elegance and less arrogance in the tone of the Gran Partita's opening Largo - Molto allegro and more wit and less pomposity in its Finale.
