Four albums in, Colbie Caillat decided it was time for a cool change. The singer/songwriter remains quintessentially Southern Californian - her spirit is sunny, her melodies breezy - but she no longer dresses her songs in beachwear. She's ditched the peasant skirts for stylish black dresses; she's no longer strumming an acoustic guitar; she's singing over densely arranged electronic tracks, some produced by Max Martin and some produced by Babyface, neither known for having much patience with neo-hippie surfer girls.

On Monday (June 9), Colbie Caillat surprised fans by releasing five new songs as a standalone EP, "Gypsy Heart Side A," that preludes the official follow-up to her 2011 album "All Of Yo. The five new tracks, which include the empowering single "Try," will be rounded out by seven more tracks to form "Gypsy Heart," to be released later this year on Republic Records. The reason I wanted to do the EP is because, right now, I think everyone's attention spans are very short," Caillat tells Billboard.

Colbie Marie Caillat (/ˈkoʊlbi kəˈleɪ/ (listen); born May 28, 1985) is an American singer-songwriter. At that time, she was the number one unsigned artist of her genre. After signing with Universal Republic Records, she released her debut album, Coco, in July 2007. The album included the hit singles "Bubbly" and "Realize", and has sold 2,060,000 copies in the US, and is certified 2x Platinum.

Gypsy Heart is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat. It was released on September 30, 2014 by Republic Records. It was produced by American record producer Babyface. It features songwriting collaborations with past co-writer, Jason Reeves, as well as new co-writers and producers Max Martin, Julian Bunetta, and Johan Carlsson. Hold On" was released to digital retailers on November 19, 2013. Caillat wrote a full-length album in 2013, only to be told by her record company that she needed to find a new sound for her next album. She wrote over 60 songs for the album. In November 2013, she released the song "Hold On" as the intended lead single for the then-upcoming album. However, the song failed to connect with fans as well as hoped, and was ultimately left off the standard release of Gypsy Heart.
