Loaded is the fourth studio album by American rock band the Velvet Underground, released in November 1970 by Atlantic Records' subsidiary label Cotillion. It was the final album recorded featuring founding member and main songwriter Lou Reed, who left shortly before its release. Loaded was ranked 110 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Loaded is likely The Velvet Underground’s most popular album – Sweet Jane and Rock & Roll have gone on to be rock radio staples. Critically, it’s recieved the same acclaim that their other three records have – universal praise. The album was widely influential – Graham Coxon claims it to be a huge influence on Blur and Phish covered the entire thing in concert on Halloween, 1998.

Loaded was the result, and with appropriate irony it turned out to be the first VU album that made any noticeable impact on commercial radio - and also their swan song, with Reed leaving the group shortly before its release. With John Cale long gone from the band, Doug Yule highly prominent (he sings lead on four of the ten tracks), and Maureen Tucker absent on maternity leave, this is hardly a purist's Velvet Underground album.

Loaded is the fourth album by The Velvet Underground, released in November 1970, by Atlantic Records' subsidiary label, Cotillion. The album was the final album recorded featuring Lou Reed, though he had departed from the band shortly before the album's release. In 2003, Loaded was on Rolling Stone's reissue of their 500 greatest albums of all time. Loaded was a commercial effort aimed at radio play, another step away from the Warhol-influenced days.

With 1970 came the Velvet Underground album "Loaded", an album that is essentially, if you excuse the cheesy term, "hitsville"; some of rock's most iconic songs appear on this album in the form of "Sweet Jane" and "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'", alongside other amazing deep cuts such as "Who Loves the Sun" (a fantastic opener to the album. Or consider a donation?

Velvet Underground : Loaded. That’s the side of the ’60s the Velvet Underground‘s early career always reminds me of. While the hippies twirled and wore flowers in their hair, the dynamic of Lou Reed and John Cale was plunging into the shadows, bringing us face to face with hustlers, heroin, and macabre romance. Reed brought sharp writing to cut deep into the hearts of fans, while Cale supplied an otherworldly sense of rhythm and sound to bend their minds. That starting point makes Loaded‘s departure from their first three albums all the more significant
