Cosmo's Factory is the fifth studio album by Creedence Clearwater Revival, released by Fantasy Records in July 1970 and released as Fantasy 8402, the same month as the single release of "Lookin' out My Back Door" b/w "Long As I Can See the Light". The name of the album comes from the warehouse in Berkeley where the band rehearsed early in their career. It was dubbed "The Factory" by drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, due to the fact that bandleader John Fogerty made them practice there almost every day.
That was Creedence Clearwater Revival in spring and summer of 1970, as they finished and released their fifth album, Cosmo’s Factory. They had started playing music together in middle school and had been slugging their way through a music career for more than a decade in various iterations. There was the studio session backing an over-the-hill doo-wop singer, the years with Tom on lead vocals, the costumed jangly years as the Golliwogs.
In August 1970, Creedence Clearwater Revival started a nine-week run at N. on the US album chart with their fifth studio album, Cosmo’s Factory, named after the warehouse in Berkeley, California, where the band rehearsed. Bandleader John Fogerty was so insistent on practising almost daily that drummer Doug ‘Cosmo’ Clifford began referring to the place as ‘the factory’. The band – guitarist brothers John and Tom Fogerty, bass player Stu Cook and Clifford – had signed in 1964 to the San Francisco based Fantasy Records, an independent jazz label.
